General recommendations about LRIT testing:
The process of testing consists of sending commands to satellite terminal (polling) and analyzing received response against IMO requirements. The testing is done automatically and can be launched at any time. Testing procedure takes up to 48 hours, during which it is important to ensure that the terminal is powered on, logged into satellite network and that there’re no sources of radio interference nearby (welding works, cranes etc). Most failed tests occur because of instable power supply (blackouts; ship’s power is more preferable), unstable signal (mountainous landscape, port cranes blocking signal) or human interference, i.e. all the reasons which could have been avoided with due approach. The most preferable testing conditions are:
– vessel being in the sea for 2 days or more;
– stable power supply (preferably from ship’s batteries);
– informing the crew about planned/ongoing test;
– sending an email to the tested terminal and getting a receipt confirmation before launching LRIT test.
Upon successful completion of LRIT testing, a LRIT conformance test report (certificate) gets issued depending on the flag requirements. Process of LRIT certificate issue may take up to 7 days, depending on ASP and flag (usually 1-3 working days).

Vessels’ current and historical location data is displayed on actual maritime maps online, available via PC, Mac, smartphones. The system has a wide variety of access settings (vessels can be grouped and access to certain groups can be opened to respective users, e.g. banks or investors). Special zones and notifications can be created (once vessel enters/leaves a defined zone, person in charge gets an email notification).
